KGB (Kadamba Geleyara Balaga) was an official Selection at the Bangalore Queer Film Festival 2023.
ಹಿಂದಿನ ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಈ ವರ್ಷ, ವಿನಾಯಕ ಗೆಳೆಯರ ಬಳಗದ ಗಣೇಶೋತ್ಸವವನ್ನು ಅದ್ದೂರಿಯಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸುವ ಇರಾದೆ ಇದೆ. ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತರ ಹರೆಯದ ಮೂವರು ಹುಡುಗರು ತಮ್ಮ ಏರಿಯಾದ ಇನ್’ಸ್ಟಾಗ್ರಾಮ್ ಇನ್ಫ್ಲುಯೆನ್ಸರ್ ಒಬ್ಬಳನ್ನು ಮೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿ, ತಮ್ಮ ಏರಿಯಾದ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಹುಡುಗರ ಹುಟ್ಟಡಗಿಸಿ, ನೆರೆ ಹೊರೆಯವರಿಂದ ಹಣ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿ “ಬುಲೆಟ್ ಗಣೇಶ”ನನ್ನು ಕೂರಿಸಿ ಅದ್ದೂರಿಯಾಗಿ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಿವ ಕನಸು ಕಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರ ನಿಜ ಸವಾಲೇನು? ಗಣೇಶನನ್ನು ಕೂರಿಸುವುದೆ ಅಥವ ತಮ್ಮ ಸ್ನೇಹವನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದೆ?
High stakes for the Vinayaka Gelyara Balaga (aka the Ganesha club) this year. Three 20-year-olds must woo a local Insta influencer, defy wealthy colony boys, and rally the neighborhood elders for funds to set up Bullet Ganesha. But their true challenge? Navigating the strains on their friendship.

Mahishaa is an Ambedkarite filmmaker based in Bangalore. He is the founder of Neelavarana, an Ambedkarite artist collective that produces short films, music videos & documentaries focusing on Bahujan stories made by people from the DBA community. He is interested in exploring media narratives that dissect and challenge dominant caste, class and gender depictions.
ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ ಬೆಳೆದಿರುವ ಮಹಿಷಾ, ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ವಾದಿ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ. ಮಹಿಷ, ಬಾಬಾಸಾಹೇಬರ ಸಿದ್ಧಾಂತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಇಟ್ಟಿರುವ ಸಮಾನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಕಲಾವಿದರನ್ನೊಳಗೊಂಡ ನೀಲಾವರಣ ಎಂಬ ಆರ್ಟಿಸ್ಟ್ ಕಲೆಕ್ಟಿವ್ನ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕ. ನೀಲಾವರಣ ಈ ವರೆಗೆ ಬಹುತ್ವದ ಹಂದರವುಳ್ಳ ಅನೇಕ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಿರುಚಿತ್ರ, ಮ್ಯೂಸಿಕ್ ವಿಡಿಯೋ, ಡಾಕ್ಯುಮೆಂಟರಿಗಳ ಮುಖೇನ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಬಲ ಜಾತಿ, ವರ್ಗ, ಲಿಂಗಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿರುವ ನಿರೂಪಣೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸವಾಲೊಡ್ಡುವ ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
The story of KGB- Kadamba Geleyara Balaga is a love letter to my days growing up in Yeshwanthapura, Bengaluru. Putting up the best Ganesha pandal for the year was a job that we took very seriously.
My motley crew would spend days roaming our area to collect funds for the task at hand, an experience I’m sure multiple such groups across the country have experienced.
In this film, I’m not looking back on those times with rose-coloured glasses. Instead as an Ambedkarite filmmaker, I’ve focused on exploring the intersection of caste, class and gender and how they play out in a society like ours.
ಕೆಜಿಬಿಯ (ಕದಂಬ ಗೆಳೆಯರ ಬಳಗ) ಕತೆ ಯಶವಂತಪುರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆದ ನನ್ನ ಹದಿಹರೆಯದ ದಿನಗಳಿಗೊಂದು ಪ್ರೇಮಪತ್ರವಾಗಿದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲರ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆ ಗಳಿಸುವಂತ ಗಣೇಶನನ್ನು ಕೂರಿಸುವುದು ನಾವು ತೀರಾ ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಕೆಲಸವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ನಮ್ಮ ಹರುಕು ಮುರುಕು ಗುಂಪಿನ ಜತೆ ದಿನಗಟ್ಟಲೆ ಏರಿಯಾ ಎಲ್ಲ ತಿರುಗಿ ಚಂದಾ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸುವುದೇ ಒಂದು ಅನುಭವವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ದೇಶದಗಲಕ್ಕೂ ಹಲವಾರು ಗುಂಪುಗಳಿಗೆ ಈ ಅನುಭವವಿರುವುದು ಸಹಜ. ಈ ಸಿನಿಮಾದ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಆ ಹಳೆಯ ದಿನಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇವಲ ಬೆರಗುಗಣ್ಣಿನಿಂದ ನೋಡದೆ, ಒರ್ವ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ವಾದಿ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕನಾಗಿ ಈ ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಾತಿ, ವರ್ಗ, ಲಿಂಗಗಳು ಹೇಗೆ ರಾಜಕೀಯವಾಗಿ ಬೆರೆತಿವೆಯೆಂದು ಶೋಧಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
