ಸಿಂಚನಾ, 20 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಆಸುಪಾಸಿನ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನವಳು. ಸದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವಳಿಗೆ ಮುಂದಿನ ಜೀವನದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಆಲೋಚನೆಗಳೇನು ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅಕೆಯ ತಂದೆ ಕಡು ನಿಟ್ಟಿನ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅವಳು ಮನೆಯ ಹೊಸಲು ದಾಟುವುದನ್ನೇ ಸಾಹಸವನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಬೆನ್ನು ತಟ್ಟಿ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸುವ ಆಕೆಯ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತೆ ಯಾವಾಗಲು ಜೊತೆಯಾಗಿರುವಳು.
ಸಿಂಚನಾಳ ತಂದೆ ಆದಷ್ಟು ಬೇಗ ಮದುವೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಕಳಿಸುವ ಆತುರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹೀಗಿರುವ ಸಿಂಚನಾಳ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅವಳ ಮುಂದೆ ಈಗ ಇರುವುದು ಎರಡೇ ಆಯ್ಕೆಗಳು. ಒಂದು, ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾದರೂ ಮಾಡು. ಇಲ್ಲ, ಜೀವನವೇ ನಿನಗೆ ಏನಾದರು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಿಂಚನಾಳ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಯಾವುದು?
Sinchana, a 20-something in Bangalore, does not have life figured out. Her father is mean, getting permission to step out of the house is a chore, her love life is weird, and her best friend is always pushing her to be… better.
With her father continuing to push marriage down her throat, Sinchana heads out in the city one day and finds out that there really are only two options. One, do something. Two, have life do something to you. Which one will she choose?
This script was developed under the Talents’ Day Films internship programme 2021-22.

Preethi Sagar is an actor, writer and new filmmaker from Bangalore. Right out of college, she worked at NEWS9 as a broadcast journalist, hosting the 10PM news bulletin for a year. With years of experience in theatre, she pivoted to acting onscreen with Kannada short films and small parts in feature films like “Man of the Match”, “Sapta Sagaradaache Yello” and PRK Productions’ upcoming film “O2”.
The director looks forward to writing, directing and collaborating with more womxn in the film industry for future projects. Her special interests currently are getting a primetime slot for a Kannada serial she’s developing, and zombies!

You know what really gets my goat? When “women-centric” films are almost always about rape, murder, death. Did I mention rape?
Don’t get me wrong, womxn across the world are disproportionately the victims of assault and crime, and it makes sense that filmmakers would choose to depict it onscreen.
But here’s the thing – womxn also experience joy, boredom, are messy, are lazy… almost as if they’re humans. And it looks like it’s up to womxn as writers, as directors, as cinematographers, as editors to take up the task of more accurate (and honestly, more fun) depictions of us in Kannada cinema.
“Aaha Nanna Maduve Anthe” is an attempt at the above. I’m really excited to continue to work in the Kannada Film Industry, not only as an actor but also a writer and a director.
